Second Term Fourth Journal : Why do people tell lies ?

              WHY PEOPLE TELL LIES ?

There are some factors which cause people to lie. Firstly, people tell lies because of feeling worthless and need for attention. A family WHO is indifferent to their children induces the children to tell lies, for the children want to meet the need for affection by this way. For instance, although their throat does not hurt, children may say that they have a sore throat and they pretend to cry. In addition, a person feeling like a crumb thinks that Money makes people more valuable in community. For example, a person feeling worthless acts as if he/she was very rich to attract other people's attention. Secondly, other factors are fears and concerns. Some lies are told in order not to sadden anyone. In some situations, people have to hide the truth on account of that they do not want to upset their friends and relatives. To illustrate, people do not tell the truth her/him who is a terminally ill so that he/she could be happy without knowing his/her illness. People know that an offense they committed causes them to take a penalty. Because of this fear of penalty, people also tell lies. For example, a person kills somebody. But, she/he denies it and says '' I did not do it.''. He/she tries to be fee without any penalties. To sum up, there are some causes compelling people on telling lies.

Second Term- Third Article Reflection

This article''Friends, Good Friends'' is about to kinds of friends. It is enjoyable one actually. I really enjoyed while reading it. Because I thought about my friends.'' Do I have such a friend?'' '' How such a friend am I?''... There are a lot of kinds of friends but I want to talk about some basic ones.

First of all, convenience friends : A person who is only around when it is easy and convenient for them. They are the people who, if not placed around us, (ex. dorm rooms), all the time, they wouldn't really be friends. They are usually used to do things for you, if you need a ride to and from school, etc. They are basically friends who need you around when they need a favor, or when they are just so bored out of their minds that they would rather hang out with you than sit around all day, but they'd never put you first.

Secondly, special interest friends : This a friend who you are together with thanks to an interest you both have. As you get together and spend time together, you get friends. Actually, these friends are good because you cannot talk about your interest with everyone. There must be a person who know about the topic.

Actually, the real friend should be like these :

  • A friend should be one in whose understanding and virtue we can equally confide, and whose opinion we can value at once for its justness and its sincerity.
  • A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself.
  • A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably.
  • A true friend is one who overlooks your failures and tolerates your success!
I liked this article so much becasue it reminded me who are my real friends. :)

Second Term- Second Article Reflection

This article'' Show Me the Way to Go Home'' is about to a topic which is very controversial. Living with family or leaving family? This have been always a point at issue. Although there is a common idea of living with friends after 18 age, there are unexpected numbers of young adults who are living with their parents.

In our country, from being born to getting married people live with their families. They only leave their family for education or military service. However, in many American and European countries this situation is different. Youth in these countries have the right to leave home at the age of 18 on condition that they provide all the necessities and they mostly use this right. In this article, we are going to deal withthe teenagers who move away from home when they are 18.

Like Faith, Donnie and Ava, young people who have left home are without
money, food, warm clothes, shelter or any idea of where to get help.
They desperately need housing and money but they can become lost in a maze
of rules and regulations. It’s little wonder that Faith, Donnie and Ava ended up
squatting in an empty house in Albert Square.
Some can even become homeless. Many – like Faith – become ‘sofa surfers’.
Homeless teenagers can end up sleeping on the streets where they are exposed
to drugs and alcohol and are at risk of being attacked or abused.

This article is about to the examples of people turning back to their family's homes. They realizes that living with family is more beneficiary because they can buy a car for themselves, they learn a lot things from each others etc..

I think, all youngs should read this article and should think twice before leaving their families.

Second Term-Fisrt Article Reflection

This article ''On Desires and Dreams'' affected me because it teaches us how to achieve our dreams. When I saw the article first, I immediately decided to read and write about it. And I am so glad to do it. It is about some steps to achieve a dream. There are two people talking about this matter, so it is not boring. While reading,I felt myself as one of them. The writer explains very well what we should do to manage to achieve a goal.

One step is determining a goal to achieve. We should clarify it our mind exactly. 'What I want to do ?' ' What is my dream ? ' Our aim or dream should answer these questions clearly. For example, before coming here(METU), it was clear for me : I wanted to go to METU. I was determined. And also you should articulate a vision. Actually this method is one I use generally. For example I wrote ''I am going to METU'' on almost all of my books. Writing somewhere your goal is an effective way to manage it.

Second step is making a plan that is about to your strategy. The writer says ''Your strategy is really your action plan for closing the gap between vision and results.'' I agree with this sentence entirely. There must be a way helping us to achieve our goals and determining this kind of way is our strategy. It will bring us to our dreams.

The other one is setting a self-contract. It is important in terms of controlling ourselves. If there is a goal, we should focus on doing it, sometimes we should be devoted. For example, we should study for taking a high grade instead of hanging out with our friends.

Last of all there must be a person controlling us. Because we can ignore our mistakes. But if there is a person controlling us, we cannot do that easily. Also this progress of achieving our goal becomes enjoyful with somebody.

If we follow these steps, we are going to achieve our goals. And I want to add something “Never, never, never, never give up.” - Winston Churchill.

Second Term Third Journal : Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

Maslow wanted to understand what motivates people. He believed that individuals possess a set of motivation systems unrelated to rewards or unconscious desires.
Maslow (1943) stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulifil the next one, and so on.
The earliest and most widespread version of Maslow's (1943, 1954) hierarchy of needs includes five motivational needs, often depicted as hierachical levels within a pyramid.
maslow's hierarchy of needs five stage pyramide
This five stage model can be divided into basic (or deficiency) needs (e.g. physiological, safety, love, and esteem) and growth needs (self-actualization).
One must satisfy lower level basic needs before progressing on to meet higher level growth needs.  Once these needs have been reasonably satisfied, one may be able to reach the highest level called self-actualization.
Every person is capable and has the desire to move up the hierarchy toward a level of self-actualization.  Unfortunately, progress is often disrupted by failure to meet lower level needs. Life experiences including divorce and loss of job may cause an individual to fluctuate between levels of he hierarchy.
Maslow noted only one in a hundred people become fully self-actualized because our society rewards motivation primarily based on esteem, love and other social needs.

The original hierarchy of needs five-stage model includes:

1. Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep.
2. Safety needs - protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability.
3. Social Needs - Belongingness and Love, - work group, family, affection, relationships.
4. Esteem needs - self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility.
5. Self-Actualization needs - realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.

Here is a video of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The video explains what these needs are. You can see these needs in anyone's routine life. You can understand well what the needs I have written are thanks to this video. Actually these needs are so basic for our life. People and the all creatures have some basic needs for surviving and I think Maslow states these needs in a good way. I hope you will understand  all what I mean after watching this video.

Second Term Second Journal : Astal Travel

Aatral travel is an interpretation of out of body experience that assumes the existence of an "astral body" separate from the physical body and capable of traveling outside it. Astral projection or travel denotes the astral body leaving the physical to travel in the astral plane.

The idea of astral travel is rooted in common worldwide religious accounts of the afterlife in which the consciousness' or soul's journey or "ascent" is described in such terms as "an... out-of body experience, where in the spiritual traveller leaves the physical body and travels in his/her subtle body (or dreambody or astral body) into ‘higher’ realms." It is therefore associated with near death experience sand is also frequently reported as spontaneously experienced in association with sleep and dreams, illness, surgical operations, drug experiences, sleep paralysis and forms of meditation.
It is sometimes attempted out of curiosity, or may be believed to be necessary to, or the result of, some forms of spiritual practice. It may involve "travel to higher realms" called astral planes but is commonly used to describe any sensation of being "out of the body" in the everyday world, even seeing one's body from outside or above. It may be reported in the form of an apparitional experience, a supposed encounter with a doppelgänger, some living person also seen somewhere else at the same time.
Through the 1960s and 1970s, surveys reported percentages ranging from 8 percent to as many as 50 percent (in certain groups) of respondents who state they had such an experience. The subjective nature of the experience permits explanations that do not rely on the existence of an "astral" body and plane.

3 Ways to Perform Astral Travel :
1-Prepare the body and mind for astral travel
   -Start in the morning.
   -Create the right atmosphere.
   -Lie down and relax.
2-Move the soul from the body
   -Reach a hypnotic state.
   -Enter a state of vibration.
-Use your mind to move your soul from your body.
   -Return to your body.
3-Explore the astral plane.
-Confirm that you are projecting your soul from your body.
   -Explore further.
   -Always return to your body.

I think this video is so clear that you can understand exactly what astral projection is. Even though I am keen on dreams and spiritual concepts, I am afraid of all of them. I have never tried experiencing astal projection.  But, researching this subject and informing you about that are enjoyable. I hope this video will help you. Enjoy watching. :)

Second Term First Journal : The Women's Day

The Women's Day

From the moment  we were born, women have been always victims of violence and oppression.  Firstly, women have been away from themselves and their gender. They were born as a kind of suppressed between what they should be and what they are. They did not know their personalities and bodies. Their ego was defined as a kind that is related to men. Moreover, women were thought as a missing man. Since the medicine were taken from women and they were excluded from society and were declared to be witches and wizards, they have never manage to learn about their bodies exactly. They could not learn their past. To illustrate, women could not learn that they could be ‘dervish sheikh’, those lodges were like that shelter today, Women’s World Magazine, Nezihe Muhiddin fighting fort he right to elect and be elected and Women The People Party that was founded by her. So, of course they could not obtain any information about the women fighting, they grew up by being imposed on the perception of gender.

Women have been always declared to be ‘guilty’. There are a lot of examples for that : The public prosecutors that said to  the victims of rape ‘’you seem to be a sligh, so were you raped ?’’, the 13 year old girl who was raped and believed to be the consent of that, the fact that police beated Fevziye Cengiz because of that she was a hostess, and Gülşah Aktürk whose demand for protection was turned back the governor and who was murdered…

We should remember that women are the architect of a society. The development of a society, moral integrity and the scructure of the family is completely dependent on women. Also, we should not forget that Atatürk always believed that our women need attain civil, political and social rights.

REVISED FOURNAL 3

If a university can encourage its students to read, learn and search, supply a sophisticated education and provide free-thinking enviroment for its students, it is an ideal university. And METU is the best of the universities in Turkey. There are a lot of reasons proving this. Let's have a glance at some of them.

Firstly, it ensures a democratic and social enviroment for the students. You can advocate your beliefs freely in METU. Also, it does not distinguish between race, religion, language. To illustrate, there are a lot of both students and lecturers that do not speak the same language and believe in different religions in METU. But these dissimilarities cannot prevent to live in peace and harmony.

Secondly, if you are studying at METU, it will make you aware of your difference on the grounds that you will start your life ahead when you get graduated from METU. For instance, when you apply for a new job, you will be accepted without any doubt. Because it is a fact that METU improves its students in all respects because it supplies a very quality academic staff who educates its students well .

The other reason is that it assures the students of everything they need in its campus. The campus includes cafes, stores and emporiums such as ŞOK, De Facto and Dost Kitapevi in that you can find anything you are looking for.
Last of all , Bufoola Springfield says ' You may be strange, but don't ever change, but this belief is not true for the students studying at METU. We, that is the students at METU, can change the whole World in that it  provides more than conditions provided by other

SET 3 : INDIAN FILMS

While watching Indian films, I feel very sad, exited and happy at the same time. Indian films are very different, I think. Because, you can see every kind of film in just one. One film consists of a lot of actors and musics. It lasts so long that that is possible to be bored of it. But the musics in films  add some fun. Aamir Khan is the most popular actor in India and I love especially his films so much.
'3 Idiots' 'Fana' and 'Ghajini' are the most beatiful according to me. I have watched Ghajini three times and I want to watch again. Altough some of my friends do not like it, I love it so much.

I want to share this video because this part of 'Ghajini' is the end of the film. And it evokes in me a lot of sentiments such as love and sadness. As I know the whole of this film, I can see two person that fall in love with each other but have no happy end. So this scene means a lot to me. This music means a lot, also. In addition, the music is one I love.By the way, you can think that they seem together,so I suggest you watch the whole video. Have a good time.:)

SET 2 : WOMEN DO SHOPPING MORE THAN MEN.

It is a fact that women and men differ in many way in that their personalities are dissimilar. However hard they try to deal with their differences, they cannot come to an agreement. Because, what women and men care about how much is changeable. And this brings about many problems. Maybe, the most common problem between women and men is shopping. While women find it enjoyable, men hate from it. So, there are some conflicts inevitable. For the one thing, women do not buy anything at first sight unlike men. Before buying, they need to glance at everything lying around the store owing to the fact that women are bad at deciding what they want. Conversely, men know what to buy very well. Secondly, a woman can pass the all time shopping on acoount of not understanding how to pass the time. On the other hand, men find it so boring that they want to rush it. Even so, many women long to go shopping with their same kinds instead of men. Last of all what is important for women is not Money. Rather, it is beauty. While shopping, they do not realize how much much products cost. However, men take into account money. Whereas something is worth its money for women, men suggest vice versa. As a consequence, shopping iss one of the biggest problems tha cannot be  solved and will go on forever.

Firstl, I have chosen this video because it is a good one for exemplify what I mean. There is a thragedy for man. Whereas he likes the whole clothes the woman have tried, she does not like any clothes at first sight. We can see that the woman is having fun. But in respect to the man, he is tired of shopping There a lot of reasons as I have explained before. I hope that this video is clear enough
to understand the problem of sgopping between women and men.

SET 1 : PIANO

                                                          PIANO

The piano is a musical instrument that is designed to be played by means of a keyboard. It is one of the most popular instrument in the world. It was invented by Bartolomeo Cristofori. I like its voice so much that  playing the piano is one of the my biggest dreams. It is so affective. While listening, it makes me happy and relaxed. It makes me dream and think about beautiful things. According to me, it is the symbol of smartness in that playing the piano inquires precision and sensitiveness. It is the symbol of beuty in that its shape and appearance are eye-catching. And finally, it is the symbol of power in terms of its mighty appearance. Also, playing the piano is very difficult because both sides of the brain should work at the same time. Your fingers should be long for playing well. So, it is both most difficult and most enjoyable musical  instrument , I think.

This video is one which I love so much. It is too attratcive because this union of rain and piano  is much harmonious. While listening I feel that I relieve from my whole problems, troubles and griefs due to the fact that rain cleans everywhere such as streets and cities. This union is so relaxing that I cannot help thinking  positively and dreaming. I feel as if I saved from all the loads on me and I was the happiest person in the world. And at the end of it a smile appears on my face.
