Second Term Fourth Journal : Why do people tell lies ?

              WHY PEOPLE TELL LIES ?

There are some factors which cause people to lie. Firstly, people tell lies because of feeling worthless and need for attention. A family WHO is indifferent to their children induces the children to tell lies, for the children want to meet the need for affection by this way. For instance, although their throat does not hurt, children may say that they have a sore throat and they pretend to cry. In addition, a person feeling like a crumb thinks that Money makes people more valuable in community. For example, a person feeling worthless acts as if he/she was very rich to attract other people's attention. Secondly, other factors are fears and concerns. Some lies are told in order not to sadden anyone. In some situations, people have to hide the truth on account of that they do not want to upset their friends and relatives. To illustrate, people do not tell the truth her/him who is a terminally ill so that he/she could be happy without knowing his/her illness. People know that an offense they committed causes them to take a penalty. Because of this fear of penalty, people also tell lies. For example, a person kills somebody. But, she/he denies it and says '' I did not do it.''. He/she tries to be fee without any penalties. To sum up, there are some causes compelling people on telling lies.

Second Term- Third Article Reflection

This article''Friends, Good Friends'' is about to kinds of friends. It is enjoyable one actually. I really enjoyed while reading it. Because I thought about my friends.'' Do I have such a friend?'' '' How such a friend am I?''... There are a lot of kinds of friends but I want to talk about some basic ones.

First of all, convenience friends : A person who is only around when it is easy and convenient for them. They are the people who, if not placed around us, (ex. dorm rooms), all the time, they wouldn't really be friends. They are usually used to do things for you, if you need a ride to and from school, etc. They are basically friends who need you around when they need a favor, or when they are just so bored out of their minds that they would rather hang out with you than sit around all day, but they'd never put you first.

Secondly, special interest friends : This a friend who you are together with thanks to an interest you both have. As you get together and spend time together, you get friends. Actually, these friends are good because you cannot talk about your interest with everyone. There must be a person who know about the topic.

Actually, the real friend should be like these :

  • A friend should be one in whose understanding and virtue we can equally confide, and whose opinion we can value at once for its justness and its sincerity.
  • A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself.
  • A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably.
  • A true friend is one who overlooks your failures and tolerates your success!
I liked this article so much becasue it reminded me who are my real friends. :)

Second Term- Second Article Reflection

This article'' Show Me the Way to Go Home'' is about to a topic which is very controversial. Living with family or leaving family? This have been always a point at issue. Although there is a common idea of living with friends after 18 age, there are unexpected numbers of young adults who are living with their parents.

In our country, from being born to getting married people live with their families. They only leave their family for education or military service. However, in many American and European countries this situation is different. Youth in these countries have the right to leave home at the age of 18 on condition that they provide all the necessities and they mostly use this right. In this article, we are going to deal withthe teenagers who move away from home when they are 18.

Like Faith, Donnie and Ava, young people who have left home are without
money, food, warm clothes, shelter or any idea of where to get help.
They desperately need housing and money but they can become lost in a maze
of rules and regulations. It’s little wonder that Faith, Donnie and Ava ended up
squatting in an empty house in Albert Square.
Some can even become homeless. Many – like Faith – become ‘sofa surfers’.
Homeless teenagers can end up sleeping on the streets where they are exposed
to drugs and alcohol and are at risk of being attacked or abused.

This article is about to the examples of people turning back to their family's homes. They realizes that living with family is more beneficiary because they can buy a car for themselves, they learn a lot things from each others etc..

I think, all youngs should read this article and should think twice before leaving their families.

Second Term-Fisrt Article Reflection

This article ''On Desires and Dreams'' affected me because it teaches us how to achieve our dreams. When I saw the article first, I immediately decided to read and write about it. And I am so glad to do it. It is about some steps to achieve a dream. There are two people talking about this matter, so it is not boring. While reading,I felt myself as one of them. The writer explains very well what we should do to manage to achieve a goal.

One step is determining a goal to achieve. We should clarify it our mind exactly. 'What I want to do ?' ' What is my dream ? ' Our aim or dream should answer these questions clearly. For example, before coming here(METU), it was clear for me : I wanted to go to METU. I was determined. And also you should articulate a vision. Actually this method is one I use generally. For example I wrote ''I am going to METU'' on almost all of my books. Writing somewhere your goal is an effective way to manage it.

Second step is making a plan that is about to your strategy. The writer says ''Your strategy is really your action plan for closing the gap between vision and results.'' I agree with this sentence entirely. There must be a way helping us to achieve our goals and determining this kind of way is our strategy. It will bring us to our dreams.

The other one is setting a self-contract. It is important in terms of controlling ourselves. If there is a goal, we should focus on doing it, sometimes we should be devoted. For example, we should study for taking a high grade instead of hanging out with our friends.

Last of all there must be a person controlling us. Because we can ignore our mistakes. But if there is a person controlling us, we cannot do that easily. Also this progress of achieving our goal becomes enjoyful with somebody.

If we follow these steps, we are going to achieve our goals. And I want to add something “Never, never, never, never give up.” - Winston Churchill.
